Aftermath of Fatal Crash – PU Truck, Semi: Vehicle Recovery, Investigation

A crash involving a semi and a pickup resulted in the death of the 83 year old driver of the pickup. The driver of the semi appeared to be uninjured. As a result of the crash on US 84 near Ashford, Al, both vehicles came to a stop in a muddy ditch. Two heavy duty wreckers were required to pull the 80000 semi back onto the road. One wrecker stabilized the trailer while another pulled the rig forward. The front wheels on the tractor were immovable due to damage from the impact. Some of the wheels were unlocked by attaching an air line to the rig. Alabama State Troopers are conducting a death investigation. The Alabama Department of Transportation was quickly on the scene to replace a stop sign destroyed by the crash. The Ashford Fire and Police Department remained on the scene to assist with traffic control.
